چکیده

Abstract Background Improving yield prediction and selection efficiency is critical for tree breeding. This vital macadamia trees with the time from crossing to production of new cultivars being almost a quarter century. Genomic (GS) useful tool in plant breeding, particularly perennial trees, contributing an increased rate genetic gain reducing length breeding cycle. We investigated potential using GS methods increase accelerate Australian program comparison traditional methods. study evaluated accuracy population 295 full-sib progeny 32 families (29 parents, reciprocals combined), along subset parents. Historical data ages 5 8 years were used study, set 4113 SNP markers. The traits focus average nut stability, measured as standard deviation over these 4 years. GBLUP models obtain genomic estimated values each genotype, five-fold cross-validation method two techniques: across related populations unrelated populations. Results Narrow-sense heritability stability was low (h 2 = 0.30 0.04, respectively). Prediction 0.57 predictions 0.14 when predicted Accuracy high (r 0.79) Predicted 474 g/year, more than double that (226 g/year), due halving generation Conclusions results this indicate incorporation into may reduction length, though cost genotyping appears be constraint at present.

Genetic Gain and Inbreeding from Genomic Selection in a Simulated Commercial Breeding Program for Perennial Ryegrass.

Genomic selection (GS) provides an attractive option for accelerating genetic gain in perennial ryegrass () improvement given the long cycle times of most current breeding programs. The present study used simulation to investigate the level of genetic gain and inbreeding obtained from GS breeding strategies compared with traditional breeding strategies for key traits (persistency, yield, and fl...

Selection on Expected Maximum Haploid Breeding Values Can Increase Genetic Gain in Recurrent Genomic Selection

Genomic selection (GS) offers the possibility to estimate the effects of genome-wide molecular markers, which can be used to calculate genomic estimated breeding values (GEBVs) for individuals without phenotypes. GEBVs can serve as a selection criterion in recurrent GS, maximizing single-cycle but not necessarily long-term genetic gain. As simple genome-wide sums, GEBVs do not take into account...

Breeding Objectives and Desired-Gain Selection Index for Rayeni Cashmere Goat in Pasture System

The aim of this study was to define breeding goals and determine the suitable selection index in Rayeni cashmere goat using simulated data. To select animals for increased quantity of meat, milk and cashmere produced, body weight of the doe (BWD), milk weight (MW), cashmere weight (CW), weight of kids for sale (WK) and number of kids for sale per doe (NK) was used as selection criteria. Four se...

Resource Allocation for Maximizing Prediction Accuracy and Genetic Gain of Genomic Selection in Plant Breeding: A Simulation Experiment

Allocating resources between population size and replication affects both genetic gain through phenotypic selection and quantitative trait loci detection power and effect estimation accuracy for marker-assisted selection (MAS). It is well known that because alleles are replicated across individuals in quantitative trait loci mapping and MAS, more resources should be allocated to increasing popu...
